Divergent Technologies Secures its AM-based Business Model by Signing a Long-Term Service Level Agreement for the entire SLM® NXG XII 600 fleet
August 30th, 2022, SLM Solutions Group AG (“SLM Solutions,” “SLM” or the “Company”) working with Divergent Technologies as the global leader driving advancement of economical serial production for complex structures in the automotive and defense sectors. Its end-to-end digital production system for design, manufacturing and assembly, DAPS™, incorporates additive manufacturing to unleash innovation in the automotive industry, making vehicles lighter, more energy efficient and less capital intensive to produce. Since 2017, Divergent and SLM have worked together as joint development partners.
Over the last years, the LPBF-based AM industry has shifted from research activities and production of single parts towards a serial production environment. To serve this industry properly, SLM Solutions has defined a new type of Service Level Agreement (SLA) which is based on the secured technical availability of the NXG XII 600 machines, as well as the residual machine portfolio.
Divergent Technologies and SLM Solutions have signed an availability-based SLA covering all 6 NXG XII 600 assets ensuring a machine uptime with a dedicated Field Service Engineer to be onsite. Kevin Czinger, Founder and CEO of Divergent, commented: “After years of intensive joint development that made series production a reality, we have now secured the production output commitment for our fleet of NXG XII 600 by signing this Service Level Agreement.” Gerhard Bierleutgeb, Chief Operating Officer of SLM Solutions, highlights that “The NXG XII 600 is designed to produce serial production for highly complex applications as well as for printing large parts. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to provide our customer base a white-glove service commitment to allow them to facilitate the machine according to their need. No idle printers here.”
The NXG XII 600 is a state-of-the-art system ideal for industrial serial production of complex components. It contains twelve 1000W lasers and the industry’s largest build envelope of 600x600x600mm³, which enables the production of large-scale components that were previously unable to be made.
Divergent’s initial factory deployment will involve the production of thousands of complex, automatically assembled structures, which will be hitting the road over the next two years. This will be followed by the scale-up of its advanced facilities, specially designed for sustainable production using DAPS™, including “fab-less” vehicle manufacturing, which will begin with the fully homologated Czinger Vehicles 21C hypercar.
