Scanlab Launches ExcelliSCAN 20 Scan Head for Improved Additive Manufacturing Applications

Scanlab GmbH, a laser technology manufacturer headquartered in Puchheim, Germany, has added a new scan head to its excelliSCAN range. The excelliSCAN 20 features a larger 20 mm aperture, and the company believes that it will provide more productivity for Additive Manufacturing and micro-machining applications.

According to Scanlab, the excelliSCAN possesses many of the same features as the excelliSCAN product family, including the SCANahead control technology which reportedly enables higher speed and precision, improved thermal management which permits higher long-term stability, and digital encoder technology which is said to offer maximum positioning accuracy.

For Additive Manufacturing users, the larger-apertured system features a high-performance scan head with fast acceleration for short acceleration periods. The higher dynamics reportedly raise productivity by shortening non-productive idle times, like jumps or changes of direction.

“With the excelliSCAN 20, we’re serving demand from customers who want to break through their previous processing limitations. Initial application tests have been very promising,” stated Georg Hofner, CEO of Scanlab.
